The Mission
To mobilize and educate a broad group of religious, human rights, campus and civic organizations in Georgia on the genocide in the Darfur region of the Sudan and to stimulate coherent advocacy efforts on behalf of the people of Darfur.
GOALS:
Ø To equip Coalition member organizations and their constituents with the knowledge and tools necessary to advocate for an end of the genocide and other crimes against humanity in
Darfur.
Ø To mobilize our
Georgia community to press our U.S. leadership to meet four objectives:
1. Ending the violence;
2. Providing adequate humanitarian assistance to those in need;
3. Creating conditions that would enable those displaced by violence to return to their homes;
4. Holding the perpetrators of the atrocities accountable.
STRATEGIES:
Ø Compile and distribute educational materials and identify resources on the current situation in
Darfur
;
Ø Delineate specific action steps and strategies to pursue;
Ø Create, promote and share educational and advocacy opportunities in our communities.
RESPONSIBILITIES OF COALITION MEMBERS:
The non-partisan Save Darfur Coalition of Georgia is comprised of organizations committed to advocacy on behalf of the victims in Darfur. Each organizational member will:
Ø support the advocacy goals of the Coalition;
Ø be listed on the Coalition roster;
Ø designate a staff person or volunteer to be the key contact for the Coalition;
Ø commit to relay information, updates and action items to constituent groups and members;
Ø participate in conference calls, meetings, event planning and recruitment;
Ø inform Coalition members about Darfur-related events and activities being organized;
Ø participate in future sub-committees, as organized.
